Planting Hope

Planting Hope: An arts class focused on considering seasonal change, emotional responses, and building resiliency.

In this class students will learn how to consider the impact of seasonal change on how we engage grief, loss, renewal, and hope through a letter writing activity that is then utilized to make “new” paper pulp embedded with local flower seeds. Especially geared towards beginners, this class equips all students with the space to acknowledge the ways that the change in the season/weather impacts their sense of belonging, how we return to thoughts of loss or regret as the natural environment also sheds itself of summer beauty. Students will be provided with beautiful papers on which to write personal letters to an experience of pain, a person who elicits feelings of regret, etc. and in a group mindfulness activity we will explore how we hold onto these feelings and what impact these heavy emotions have on our ability to engage in self care. Through then ripping these papers apart and in adding addition paper pulp and flower petals/leaves new papers will be formed into which the student will select from a variety of seeds that will all be locally sourced.  All class members will go home with plantable seed paper as well as handouts linked to self care, the guided imagery, and the open ended prompts utilized during the letter writing activity that link the activity back to seasonal change.

The class fee covers all material costs, including the costs of all additional take home items.

Due to the nature of the conversations that will be had, this class is restricted to adults.
